Hello Booknerds,

Can you believe half the year has gone by already??

As we find ourselves in the heart of the year, it's time to pause and reflect on the incredible reading journey we've embarked upon.

Revisiting our reading goals reminds us of the enthusiasm and anticipation with which we started this year.

Whether it was diving into a new genre, tackling a challenging classic, or simply making more time for reading, let's take a moment to pat ourselves on the back for the progress we've made.

Yet, amidst our intentional reading choices, we must also celebrate the beauty of the unexpected.

Those books that mysteriously found their way into our lives, recommended by a friend, stumbled upon in a bookstore or discovered through the serendipity of a library visit.

These unexpected gems have broadened our horizons, introduced us to new authors, and reminded us of the infinite possibilities that lie within the world of literature.

So, as we move forward into the second half of 2023, let's hold onto our reading goals with renewed vigour.

Here are some of our faves so far!

The Midnight Library by Matt Haig

Step into the enchanting world of the Midnight Library, where Nora Seed discovers a gateway to countless parallel lives she could have lived. With each book on its shelves representing a different existence, Nora explores the roads not taken, grappling with regrets, second chances, and the profound question of what truly makes life worth living.

Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro

Immerse yourself in a world where artificial beings serve as companions. Meet Klara, an extraordinary Artificial Friend awaiting her chance to be chosen by a child. Through Klara's observant and empathetic lens, Kazuo Ishiguro masterfully explores themes of love, consciousness, and the complexities of humanity, delivering a profoundly moving and thought-provoking tale.

Gin Soaked Boy by Sandeep Mathew

Sandeep Mathew has meticulously crafted a step-by-step storyline of how depression works its way into one’s life, discarding all friendships, stealing innocent laughter, and dousing the inner spark of happiness. This book is as real as it gets.

Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir

Brace yourself for an exhilarating space adventure that will leave you breathless. Join astronaut Ryland Grace as he wakes up aboard a spacecraft, with no recollection of his mission or his own identity. With time running out, Grace must unravel the mystery surrounding his predicament and embark on a daring mission that holds the fate of humanity in balance.

Acathexis by Amol Redij

Acathexis presents a profound contemplation of the human condition, where emotions evaporate, leaving a stark void. This final installment of Redij's series explores isolation and aloofness, urging readers to embrace silence, confront the absence of feeling, and find solace in existential emptiness.

The Sanatorium by Sarah Pearse

Prepare for a spine-chilling journey to an isolated mountain resort turned eerie crime scene. Elin Warner, a detective recovering from her trauma, finds herself entangled in a web of secrets when a snowstorm traps guests inside the converted sanatorium. As the tension rises and a killer lurks among them, Elin must confront her demons while unearthing the truth.

Song of the Trinity by Vadhan

Vadhan has just launched his fifth novel merging mythology with sci-fi and a ton of other genres!
The Final Battle looms as Kali, imprisoned Lord of Kaliyug, plots devastating revenge.
In a race against annihilation, a cursed warrior, a unique Demi-God, a furious sage, and an alien orphan must unite to face unspeakable evil. With overwhelming odds, their courage will be tested in a fight to save the universe from imminent destruction.
