BOOK REVIEW- Clinical Diagnosis

Clinical Diagnosis - Unusual Happenings and Outcomes by Dr. Satya Pal Gupta.

It is a sure guide to the unexpected situations doctors face. This book is not written as a tale or a connected series of events that occurred in the author’s personal life. It is simply an anecdotal record of various unusual cases Dr. Satya Pal Gupta has come across in his career.

“Physicians must be able to tell the antecedents, know the present, and foretell the future.”

This book teaches us many more lessons for both Life and Diagnostics. It covers a massive range of topics - Medicine, Surgery, Anesthesia, Pre-operative management, Post-operative management, Eye, ENT, Orthopedics, Neurology, Cardiology, Psychiatry, Urology, and Gynecology, to name them largely.

The author’s writing is fluid and to the point. All the events are discussed in a manner that gives a sense of both perspective and context. And with the discussion of each case whether it be a successful one or not, is accompanied by a lesson that needs to be remembered, and implemented.

And though it’s heavy on medical terminologies, that is not the reason to miss out on reading this book. I believe it will empower people to get more involved and serious about their health and think about how they might want such situations to go down.

“The primary function of doctors should be to teach people how not to get sick.”

The sincerity, dedication, and deep desire to save lives that Dr. Gupta is known for is mirrored in his words. So, if medical dramas interest you, give this one a go.
