The Henna Artist is a novel which explores tradition, ambition, and resiliency in post-colonial India. The book tells us the story of a henna (mehendi) artist Lakshmi, from when she leaves an abusive marriage and moves to Jaipur, a metro city in India. It captures quite well the details of life in the 1950s, which further makes this period drama interesting.
